UPLL Announces Summer 2020 Season!

Greetings, UPLL Nation!

We hope this message finds you and your families in continued good health during the ongoing pandemic.

Summer 2020 Season Plans

With the summer months quickly upon us, the COVID-19 situation continues to improve locally. Montgomery County and several other counties in the Philadelphia region were advanced to the “Yellow Phase” on Friday, June 5th. Little League International, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the State of Pennsylvania, and county authorities have provided guidance for youth sports organizations to safely return to play, with games starting once the county reaches the “Green Phase”. Additionally, Montgomery County has provided guidance to allow outdoor youth baseball and softball organizations to conduct practices in groups no larger than 25 people starting on June 8th.

The Upper Providence Little League Board of Directors has therefore begun planning a Summer 2020 season for both baseball and softball! Registration begins NOW and will close on June 29, 2020. Please visit our website to begin the registration process.

We are hoping to quickly form teams with practices beginning around June 22nd and first games the week of July 6th, assuming Montgomery County has entered the “Green Phase” by that date. The modified season would end before Labor Day, on September 4th.

Whether we are able to plan a season in this short time frame is entirely dependent on the registration response we receive, both in terms of players and almost more importantly in terms of volunteer coaches and team managers. Since there is still some uncertainty as to whether we will be able to have appropriate player and volunteer numbers across all divisions to accommodate a season, all registrants will be placed on a wait list. Once we determine that forming teams is possible, we’ll transfer registrants from the waitlist to plan the season. No charge will be assessed while registrants are on the waitlist. When it is determined that we have enough registrants to form teams in a division, the registration fee will be applied to your account, payable online through our website.

The threat of COVID-19 has diminished in our community, but it has certainly not been eliminated. As such, we will return to play with new guidelines and conditions in place to keep our players, coaches, and families as safe as possible. These will include:

  • The UPLL Snack Stand will be closed throughout the Summer season.
  • Upper Providence Township’s MacFarlan Park, which contains a total of three fields and a small pavilion with restrooms, will remain closed. Additionally, the playground area in MacFarlan Park will also remain closed.
  • The UPLL Pavilion area will be closed as well as all bleacher seating areas.
  • Numerous changes to on-field play, such as umpire positioning, the elimination of handshaking and usage of sunflower seeds.
  • Changes to off-field policies, such as the elimination of post-game snacks, sharing of drinks, distancing of spectators, etc.
For detailed guidance which UPLL will be implementing during this modified season, please read the UPLL Return to Play Guidelines for Parents and Players and the UPLL Return to Play Guidelines for Coaches and Team Managers.

Spring 2020 Refund Status

With regard to processing funds from the cancelled Spring 2020 season, we’d like to provide you with an update. The deadline for completing your request was May 31st and the board began processing responses last week.

  • For families who specifically elected a credit on the request form, we have posted that credit to your account and you should have received an email confirmation of this action.
  • If you opted to donate your registration fees, THANK YOU for supporting UPLL! We were blown away by the generosity of our families. We’ve begun the distribution of receipts to those who elected to receive one and should complete this over the next few days.
  • For all families who’ve requested a refund, we’re preparing for the process of distributing refund checks through the league’s banking system. As it has become a clearer possibility that a Summer season might occur, the decision was made to delay the distribution of refund checks from the Spring 2020 season until registration closes for the Summer 2020 season. If you’d like to participate in the Summer season and have elected a refund, we can instead credit your account. If you do not plan to participate, we’ll mail your refund after the close of Summer registration.
  • If you made no selection or did not complete on the form, the default election we provided is an account credit. Over the coming days, we’ll post credits to the accounts of these families as well.
Spirit Wear Order Distribution

For those families who participated in our Online Spirit Wear sale back in March, we’re happy to report that our vendor was able to complete our order in the last few weeks and we have received the shipment!

On Sunday, June 14th at 2:00pm, we will bring the items to the UPLL Complex for distribution. If you have ordered spirit wear items, please pull into MacFarlan Park parking lot and remain in your vehicle. We will ask your name and bring your items to your vehicle for you.

If you ordered items and cannot pick them up on Sunday, please let us know so we can make alternative arrangements for distribution.

Thank you for your continued patience in allowing us, as your UPLL Board, to work through what has been a very challenging 2020 season! We hope you're excited about returning to baseball and softball this summer, and, WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOUR SMILING FACES AT THE UPLL COMPLEX!
