Equipment Information

This weekend - Saturday, March 7th and Sunday, March 8th - is UPLL Discount Weekend at the Dick's Sporting Goods location at Providence Town Center! Present the UPLL coupon to receive 20% off your purchase throughout the entire store (with some exceptions, be sure to check the fine print).

Getting a discount is great and everything, but a common question we receive this time of year is: what do I need to buy for my Little Leaguer?

What equipment does UPLL provide?

In the Baseball Divisions, each player will receive a team hat and jersey. In the Softball Divisions, each player will receive a visor, jersey, pants, and socks. UPLL also provides baseballs and softballs for use in games and practices.

UPLL has league-owned batting helmets, spare bats, and catching equipment for team use in both Baseball and Softball.

What equipment should I buy my child?

Each player should have their own baseball or softball glove. For more information on what size glove to purchase your child, you can consult Baseball Monkey's Glove Buying Guide. Additionally, the staff at Dick's Sporting Goods can answer any sizing questions or break-in questions you have, so don't hesitate to ask this weekend!

Many parents opt to purchase their child their own batting helmet, but as UPLL has some for team use, this is completely optional. UPLL requires helmets with facemasks in all Softball Divisions and all Baseball Divisions except Intermediate. Players in the Intermediate Division have the option of removing the facemask and may wear a standard, "double ear-flap" baseball helmet without a cage. Additionally, a helmet with a "C-Flap" facial protector is also legal in the Intermediate Division if the facial protector is attached by the manufacturer of the helmet; see Little League's policy on "C-Flap" facial protectors for more details

Additionally, many players purchase their own bats. Please be sure to take a look at Little League's bat rules before making a purchase! As of January 1st, 2018, all bats used in our Baseball Tee Ball, Midgets, and Minors Divisions must be certified with the USA Bat standard and have the identifying USA Bat logo. In the Baseball Intermediate Division only, bats certified with either the USA Bat or the BBCOR standard are allowed. We do diligently check bats to make sure they are certified as it is a risk to the league's insurance policy, so please make sure you purchase your child a Little League legal bat! UPLL has some bats for general use and many players will allow other team members to borrow a bat.

A pair of baseball or softball cleats ("spikes") is also a good purchase. Rubber-soled cleats are allowed in all divisions in Little League Baseball and Softball. Additionally, in the Baseball Intermediate Division only, metal cleats may be worn.

If your son is participating the Baseball Divisions, an athletic supporter or compression shorts is good protective equipment to have; if he is playing the catcher position, this is required equipment!

Beyond these items, parents also consider purchasing optional items such as baseball pants, a belt, and socks.
